I found the script on the net it says its for nwn but they use mdl files too. Here is the site NWN mdl Import/Export Maxscript Version 0.3b for GMax

Magos, can't you attach Dex's script here?
oh and this needs updating. im using v1.2 and it gets quite confusing with it.
animation doesnt necessarily require bones. envelope hurts my brain. using the transformation gizmo would be enough.

EDIT: ACK. Yobguls converter doesnt quite work..

Absolutely genius...

I have tried MANY tutorials and none of them seemed to get everything right. This tutorial is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Magos- Do you mind if i put a link to it on my webpage? I wont copy the tutorial. Just put a link.

And i forgot who put it there, but tnx for the link to dexs converter. couldnt have done it without you

w00t! Sry to double post but i found something to solve all of your problems. http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Tools&ID=29. It includes every tool you need for this tutorial that has broken links plus a couple of others (like to import mdx files to gmax)

sry. for some reason it said page not found when i clicked edit on my post.. still does on that first post. Dex's script is in the link i put up before (http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Tools&ID=29).

Also Magos, there is an mdx importer/exporter included. The importer is perfect except for skins and names of animations but you can find that by just converting the mdx to an mdl. It will also eleminate the need to do multiple copies if you just export directly to an mdx. Then you could change to mdl for editing of skins and change it back. Just an idea if you have a model with very large script.

i used dexscript in gmax and i did print to listener, but i showed up with an error window that said this and all the animations disappeared, can somone help me?

nvm i fixed the probelm, but damn! im gonna spend a whole lot of time cnping! is it possible to save at a certain point, then continue cnping later?
also, i have a bunch of numbers on one line from the listener, but when i cnp, it turns out in multiple lines, is this okay?

hmmm... Id suggest turning of word wrapping in whatever text editor you are using. It won't cause any issues most of the time, but it may sometimes. Just go to tools->wordwrap or something (depending on what text editor you are using)

i used wordwrap but it only goes to a certain point, it makes 2 lines instead of 1!

You probably screwed up with the material. What you see is the entire texture being team colored, and since you tested with player 1 it's red. Modelling in GMax is very unstable and you can get weird results from seemingly no reason at all...

hehe, i've upgraded dex but isn't finished, get this new 1. Is a beta.

you may now export this:

-lights,attachments and particle anims.
-added particle emitters 1.
-parents added to lights,attachments and particles.

Beta 2 will set:
-event objects will be finished.
-particle emitters will be perfectly exported.
-colition shapes will be fixed.
-visibility anims will be set correctlly.

Final will set:
-ambient, direct target lights will be added.
-add note track anims.
-add particle emitters2.
-tut guide added & exporting codes added to.

OOOKKKKK!!! This helped me somewhat!! But I use MDX Importer\Exporter to import mdx files! But when i use animate, cuase i wanna change anims, the animation is like whole bunched and freaking out?????

Can some1 tell me how this works??

Animations are almost impossible to make in Gmax.

Try remaking the animations you've already made and see if it turns out any better.

This tutorial is absolutely the best there is. It helped me moddeling and I'm making a really cool model now, but about animating, you should note that it is much easier to cut the whole model in pieces and then use skinning, because I really had to mess around with the skin modifier because I when I tried to skin the arm, I pulled half of the belly when I moved the arm etc. But I had allready skinned the model before, so when I tried cutting him up I lost all of the UVW, and it took me a while to unwrap that b*tch.

Keep on making tutorials like this!

Error reading the model file :

i am realy realy clad that i found this site:D...i already made an ugly test model and i think im done with it, but i dont know how to convert my model.
I also dont get the pickture system. I can get 3 picktures in my model but when i draw one then it cant get in my model(only 2 paintings can).
Please say me how to fix those 2 problems!
